25 Years Ago

September 24, 1998

The Three Star Construction softball team placed second at the ADA Class B Regional/National tournament in Waterloo, Iowa over the Labor Day weekend. The tournament consisted of 23 teams from Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Their record for the three day tournament ended up at 4-2. The second place finish qualifies the team for the ASA Class B National tournament to be held in Shreveport, Louisiana. The team consists of: Dave Steinmetz, Mike Line, Marty Host, Brian Gimbel, Chris Bjerke, Mason Stender, Scott Zigan, Tom Ollman, Don Struss, Mike Steinmetz and Fred Duncan.

Enrollment is down 25 students this year at Browerville Public School—from 570 last year to 545 this year. The decline stems primarily from the fact the school graduated its largest class last spring, 65 students, and only brought in 43 seventh graders this fall.


75 Years Ago

September 23, 1948

The Todd County Welfare Board is making an appeal on behalf of the homeless, dependent, and needy children of Todd County. The appeal is to residents of Todd County who are in a position to offer their homes as foster boarding homes. A well recognized fact these days is that all children need a father and mother who can provide them with loving care, security, moral and spiritual guidance and an opportunity to grow up as good citizens of the community.

Next Tuesday, September 28, Edward Hoffarth will hold an auction sale of his personal property on his farm southeast of the village. The Lee State Bank will act as clerk while Neisse and Murphy will host the sale.
