25 Years Ago

April 22, 1999

Little Elk plans to build a new township hall. “It’s going to pot, there is no basement, the roof is sliding off the walls and when the state demanded we make it handicapped accessible we found that even through we had put rods across the building several years ago to hold the walls from falling out, it was still pushing out, said Leighton Abrahamson, Little Elk Township clerk.

Five local martial artists gave their best in manners and technique at the Brandt Association Tournament in Perham. These students of Brose’s Central Minnesota Tae Kwon Do School proudly brought home gold, silver and bronze medals. They are: Roger Strack, Sabin Adams, Chase Eckel, Grant Bentz and Craig Spandl.


75 Years Ago

April 21, 1949

The Firemen’s annual dancing party given at the North Star Coliseum on Easter Monday night, April 18, drew a record crowd and was pronounced one of the most enjoyable affairs so far this year. The members of the department were well pleased with the splendid operation and asked The Blade to convey their appreciation to all who helped in making the party a success.

At a meeting held at the Brownsville High School recently, final plans were drawn up for the organization of a summer recreation program. Present at the meeting as representatives of various organization were: Dr. A.J. Lenarz, village council; Ed. R. Iten, school board; Walt Kotula, commercial club; Mrs. A.S. Blenkush and Mrs. John Gaida, Legion Axillary; Mrs. C. R. Taylor, Red Cross; Henry Brenny, fireman; Peter Kiselewski, American Legion; Leo Steinmetz, VFW; Robert Johnkowski, Independent Baseball Team; A. S. Blenkush, superintendent of schools; and Ed. Zins, high school coach.
