News from Browerville's Past

25 Years Ago

October 12, 2000

Many of us remember being little kids when the fire alarm would ring. We would run to the street and watch in excited amazement as the shiny red trucks went flashing by with their sirens wailing and all of their lights on. Browerville Fire Chief Bill Buhl started with the department in 1989 and said that he serves because he really enjoys it and he feels that it provides an important service to the community. Officers include Captain and Training Officer Tony Strack, Lieutenant Bob Heid, and Mike Iten is in charge of the Fire Department Relief Association. There is currently 22 volunteer members.

There were nearly 60 people at the Lloyd Buhl farm on Sunday, October 1, for a reunion of past and present Land O’ Lakes (LOL) employees. Most of the employees had worked with LOL when the plant was producing butter or dried milk. Land O’ Lakes in Browerville now produces dried animal products. The group enjoyed visiting and catching up on old times, while sharing a potluck meal.

75 Years Ago

October 12, 1950

Todd County Sheriff Ralph Kamphenkel resigned his position last week and J.H. (Slip) Wolter, now a candidate for the sheriff’s office, was picked by the county commissioners to fill the vacancy until the time of expiration in January. Kamphenkel resigned in order to take a state civil service job as “law enforcement inspector.”

Thursday afternoon, November 9, at 1:30 p.m., is the date and time set for the countywide Dairy Products Institute program which is scheduled to be held at the Browerville High School auditorium. The date was selected on Friday evening by the Promotional Committee which consists of all creamery operators and one board member from each of the dairy plants in the county. The program is being sponsored by the Todd County Dairy Industries with the County Extension Service cooperating.
