25 Years Ago

November 16, 2000

At their November 9 meeting, the Browerville City Council chose Dave Kramer to fill the vacancy created when Doug Johnson resigned in August. Kramer served in the past, but was forced to resign when his job at Land O’ Lakes was transferred to Perham. Mayor Steven Wiersgalla said that he had three people approach him about the position: Kramer, Dick Rech and Cory Heid. Wiersgalla said that Kramer was first to apply and should be given first consideration.

Kenneth Reinhart, Commander of the Disabled American Vets Chapter 12 from Morrison and Todd counties, and Dorothy Klick, WWII Army Nurse, presented Dennis Irsfeld and Betty Masoner of the Browerville School with awards for their continuing service.

75 Years Ago

November 16, 1950

Dr. A. J. Lenarz of this village is now coroner for Todd County as the result of last week’s general election when many of his friends wrote his name on the ballot. Here in Browerville, 141 persons wrote the doctor’s name on their ballots while many others in various precincts throughout the county did likewise. No candidate had filed for the office. Dr. Lenarz is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Following his graduation he practiced for nine months in Sauk Rapids and then came to Browerville in 1936 to succeed Dr. M.E. Mosby when the latter moved to Long Prairie.

Through the combined efforts of all the VFW Posts in the county, a new audiometer was purchased for use in all the schools of the county. The posts which sponsored the program were: Hewitt, Staples, Browerville, and Long Prairie. The cost of the machine is $345. The funds were turned over to the County Public Health Nursing service. The instrument will be used in all the rural as well as town schools, In the rural schools where there is no electricity, nearby farmers have offered their homes for use in checking the children’s hearing.
