When Browerville Science Teacher Bruce Curley went to the school board and asked them for the money to fund a greenhouse for his students, they told him it would be too expensive. Not to be defeated, Curley sought and received $20,000 to fund his project from a private party. Because the greenhouse is new to the school, much of the time this year has been used setting up the house and fine tuning its automatic climate controls.

The Browerville softball team played Bertha-Hewitt on April 30. Both teams played very solid defense. Both pitchers threw strikes. Kim Foote had zero walks for the game and Bertha-Hewitt’s pitcher only walked one batter for the game. Browerville simply could not hit the ball.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Frahm of rural Browerville received the sad message from the War Department last Saturday that their son, PFC. Melvin P. Frahm, 23, was reported killed in action in Korea on April 30. Melvin was inducted into the Army on September 19, 1950, and was sent to Fort Sheridan, Illinois, for five months of training with the 5th Army Division.

The first high school band concert of the season will be held next Saturday evening, May 12, at 8:30 p.m. at the Browerville Water Tower Square. A pleasing program of marches, overtures and popular numbers has been selected by Mr. Iverson, the band director. The band members will appear in full dress uniforms at this concert. The public is cordially invited to attend.
