Growing up in Burleene Township, near the tiny town of Clotho, Art and Edith Johnson remember a time when there were shiverees, socials, community gatherings and working together with their neighbors. The brother and sister, now in their 80’s and 90’s respectively, remember those early times fondly and are pleased to be a part of a heritage that continues each year at the Clotho Ice Cream Social.

Mike Poplinski (Turner), a 1960 graduate of Browerville High School, along with his family, will be presenting two nights of family entertainment and Christian witnessing at the Browerville Community Center on Friday, August 10, and Saturday, August 11, starting at 7 p.m. Their concerts will feature gospel songs, folk songs, and instrumentals, with special children’s selections and world famous hymns, along with folk songs and stories and testimonies of God’s faithfulness and direction in their lives.

August 2, 1951

C. Elmer Anderson comes into the governorship better prepared than any other governor in Minnesota history, according to a statement by James Laughlin, Chairman of the Veterans Good Government League of Minneapolis. Anderson presided over the Minnesota Senate for six sessions.

Young vegetable growers of Minnesota have received the commendation of the United States Secretary of Agriculture Charles Brannan. The secretary said support of the department’s home garden and food preservation program is designed to increase the nation’s food supply as a defense measure.
