The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, August 19.

Tanks at Bell Hill

Planning and Zoning Director Dena Malone, and County Engineer Anthony Maule provided an update on the status of the recovery tanks located on the south side of the road. Equipment is ready to pump out the tanks, with an estimated cost of about $300, which can be covered by the current budget.

The tanks, which contain only water, will be pumped out onto the ground. Afterward, an observation of the two large tanks will be conducted to ensure all areas are inspected. Once this is complete, a contractor will crush the lids and fill the tanks with natural soil, finalizing the process for the property. It was noted that the tanks were abandoned and that there is a large drain field on the site, but otherwise, the parcel should be ready for its intended use.

Safety concerns were raised regarding entry into the tanks, as they are considered confined spaces. The commissioners discussed the need for certified personnel, possibly from the local fire department, to ensure safe inspection. The tanks are approximately ten feet deep, and the process may involve using a flashlight or camera for inspection. The board agreed to proceed with the outlined plan, ensuring all safety protocols are followed and the property is properly prepared for future use...
