Personal Bests and Strong Performances at Two Consecutive Meets

by Coach Heidi Brandsma
The Pirate cross country team had a busy week. We started out with a drizzly run at the Double Eagle golf course for the Bertha-Hewitt Inv. on Tuesday, September 29. This course is fairly flat and fast, even with the soggy ground from the rain.
The first race of the day was the Elementary one-mile run. There were approximately 80 kiddos ranging from grades 3- 6 that participated. While participants who finished in the top ten for both boys and girls received ribbons, there was no official timing for this event. Running for the girls was Burklee Borash, who completed the mile in 6 min 28 sec, followed by Ella Enberg, who completed the course in 6 min 57 sec, then Lexi Mayer, who finished in 7 min 03 sec. Next for the Pirates was Evelyn Mulek, who finished in 7 min 42 sec, and Sylvia Mulek, who ran the course in 8 min 04 sec. Running for the Pirate elementary boys was Cyprien Tomperi, who completed the one-mile run in 7 min 08 sec, followed by Sterling Dunn, who ran the course in 7 min 53 sec, and then Chase Lamphere, who finished in 8 min 10 sec.
The second race of the day was the Junior High/C team. They ran a two-mile course as the rain continued to fall. Running for the Pirates were Sawyer Mayer, who finished the course in 14 min, and Elliana Mathison, who finished with a time of 18 min 06 sec...
