“I am very honored to receive this award, but I honestly don’t think I do anything different than any other amazing teacher here at Browerville!”

Those were the words of Browerville Elementary Third Grade Educator Kris Petermeier who was recently awarded the VFW Sixth District 2020 Teacher of the Year award.

Mrs. Petermeier has been teaching at Browerville for 27 years. She has taught for 28 years in total.

“It has flown by!” she said of the past 27 years.

During her career, she has taught first, third, fourth, and fifth-grade classes as well as elementary music. She has helped out many times at Christ the King Catholic School, as well.

“When I found out I had received this honor I was surprised. I truly don’t believe that I do anything different than any other teacher. We all want to instill the meaning of patriotism and the honor we have living in our country,” she said of receiving the recognition.

She was grateful to the VFW for the tribute, but more than her own personal honor, she was grateful to “all the men and women in the military who have made and continue to make it possible for us to do what we love.”

While she has had many influential people in her life, her grandmother, mother, and father most impacted her desire to be a teacher. . .
