Pirates Grind Out 14-6 Win over South Ridge

The Verndale Pirates relied on a balanced rushing attack and a strong defense to secure a hard-fought 14-6 victory over South Ridge on Friday night, August 29.
South Ridge struck first midway through the opening quarter when Aiden Tondryk broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion attempt failed, giving the Panthers an early 6-0 lead.
Verndale quickly responded. Quarterback Owen Weiher connected with Joseph Elfstrum for a 28-yard touchdown pass. Weiher then powered in the two-point conversion on the ground, giving the Pirates an 8-6 advantage.
The decisive score came in the second quarter when running back Hollister Heinz capped off a drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The conversion attempt failed, but Verndale maintained a 14-6 lead at halftime—a margin that would hold as both defenses tightened in the second half...
