Pirates Shut Out McGregor 14-0

The Verndale Pirates earned a hard-fought shutout victory over McGregor on Friday night, coming away with a 14-0 win.
After a scoreless first half, Verndale struck in the third quarter when Hollister Heinz broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run. The PAT attempt failed, but the Pirates grabbed a 6-0 lead. Moments later, the defense and special teams made their mark as Cooper Voeltz scooped up a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion pass from Chase Jensen to Owen Weiher pushed the lead to 14-0, which remained until the final whistle.
Verndale’s offense totaled 243 yards, including 187 rushing and 56 passing yards. The Pirates ran the ball 35 times and attempted 10 passes, completing 6 for 56 yards...
