Power outage affects 554 customers

Tuesday’s [November 19] power outage in Clarissa that occurred around 12:15 p.m. was weather-related.
Rain caused a short in a piece of equipment which sparked a power pole fire near a substation in Clarissa—at the intersection of Bridge Street and Mill Avenue, causing a main feeder line to lock out.
Approximately 554 customers were impacted.
“Our crews replaced the power pole, which takes considerable time, and determined that when the event happened on the power pole, that created more issues on our system which needed to be addressed. We were not aware of the secondary issues until the power pole was replaced, which added to the length of the outage,” said Minnesota Power Director of Corporate Communications Amy Rutledge.
The majority of customers had their power restored around 9 p.m. that night, with the remaining customers receiving power around midnight.
“We appreciate customers patience as our crews worked safely and as quickly as possible to restore power,” added Rutledge.
