BHVPP Girls Wrestling shows grit in recent matchup
The BHVPP girls wrestling team displayed determination and skill during their recent evening of competition against Staples, WDC, and Bemidji. The night started in dismal fashion as the Raiders, having 13 girls on the roster to start the season, would bring only three girls who would be able to step out on the mat. Some major injuries took out three girls early, a couple more with injuries, a couple with concussions, and one illness made the lineup pretty bleak in this team event. With no possible way to win against three very solid teams, the focus was to stay positive and improve technique. The ladies had some standout individual performances, and a display of true competitive spirit highlighted the night.
Individual Highlights:
Elora Wagner dominated the mat, finishing the evening with a perfect 4-0 record. Wagner utilized multiple attacks on her feet to secure a variety of impressive takedowns.
Autumn Becker also had a strong showing, going 4-1. Becker’s success was fueled by excellent footwork that opened up effective scoring opportunities on her feet.
Anika Bostic finished 1-5 on the night, but the record only tells part of the story. Bostic faced several high-level opponents and showed significant technical growth, particularly in developing hand control from the bottom position.
Wrestler of the Evening The “Wrestler of the Evening” honor was awarded to Anika Bostic for her extraordinary courage. Faced with a choice between an easy win by forfeit against Bemidji or moving up a weight class to face the #1-ranked girl in the state, Bostic chose to compete. Her decision to take the match earned her high praise from the coaching staff and teammates alike...
