Those attending the April 10 meeting of the Eagle Valley School Board had a chance to see the latest innovation in technology...talking computers. High School Principal Richard Lundgren said, “I had seen ‘Talking Computers’ when I was visiting a college. Those could really help some of our students who are struggling with their reading.” Bringing his vision and enthusiasm to the board, Lundgren obtained their permission to follow up on obtaining the computers and their special programs.

The Minnesota State Karate Championships were held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on March 5. This is a top NASKA run tournament that draws many top competitors. Wadena/Bertha sent their own top competitors: Candy Parks of Eagle Bend, a black belt; Kristina Mckellep of Wadena, a green belt third stripe; and Jessie Petrie of Browerville-Long Prairie area, a blue belt. Parks received first place in weapons and missed the grand champion by .03. McKellep scored second in sparring, a second in empty hand and third in weapons. Petrie sparred and lost in her first round.

April 24, 1975
The Frederick E. Cossentine American Legion Post #280 of Eagle Bend announced that once again they will sponsor a boy for Boys State. Selected to participate this summer, June 8-14, was Myron Oftedahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Oftedahl of rural Eagle Bend. The alternate selection was Tom Guse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Guse.

Fire Chief Leonard Cossentine reported a call to the Tim Bakewell farm Wednesday a.m., April 16, where a hog house was on fire. Due to the extremity of the blaze they were unable to save the building and four brood sows plus 35 little pigs. Cause of the fire was undetermined.
