“Mary’s Memory Makers” was the name of the Eagle Bend/Todd County Mutual Cancer Support Group team for the third annual Relay for Life walk held in Staples on June 23. The team walked for a total of 11 hours to raise money for cancer research. A portion of the money raised stays in Todd County for local cancer patients. Once again, our marathon walker, Andy, walked 26 plus miles without even breaking a sweat. And there was also our infamous Glen who kept going and going and going. The unique team was in memory of Mary Oelrich, a cancer patient, who passed away on January 2 after a six year battle with ovarian cancer. Members were: Captain Brenda Kuperus, Glen and Andy Kuperus, Missy Kuperus, Steven Koehn, Nancy Cousins, Amy and Mark Olson, Sharon Oelrich, Tim, Danielle and Tyler Notch, Debbie Oelrich, Emil Mariah and Jakiah Segebart, Richard Oelrich, Michelle Holt, Bev Johnson and Judy Clementson.

The Eagle Bend VFW baseball team posted a 17-7 record this summer and it was good enough for them to gain a first place seed in the sixth district’s northern division tournament. Staples was seeded second followed by Little Falls, Brainerd, Menahga and Long Prairie.
