25 Years Ago
September 13, 2000
The “open” sign in the window of the restaurant on Main Street, Eagle Bend was a welcome sign to the area’s residents. The restaurant had been closed for almost a year. Maggie’s Countrytime Cafe, operated by Peggy Houle, her daughter Beckie, assorted granddaugther and hired staff, is now open for business. Houle has lived in Staples the past 15 years and has been in the food business for 32 years. She’s always wanted have her own place. Learning of the vacant cafe in Eagle Bend, she decided the time was right to take the plunge.

On Saturday, September 9, the Central Lakes Search and Rescue team and the Todd County Sheriff’s Posse joined a mock search on the Dale Current farm in rural Bertha. The search and rescue team used their dogs to find hiding “victims” while the posse search the woods for clues left for them in mock abduction scenario.
50 Years Ago
September 18, 1975
The Eagle Bend High School celebrated homecoming on September 11 by holding its annual variety show in the high school gym. Masters of ceremonies were Myron Oftedahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Oftedah, Jr., and Kathy Pommier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pommier. The highlight of the evening was the coronation of Homecoming queen. The 1974 Barb Willie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Willie, escorted by Myron Oftedahl, was presented the the crown on the new queen Janet Moller.

ADA Meritorious production award was presented to Curt Krause of Eagle Bend by Princess Kay of the Milky Way Wanda Ponto of Mora at the 1975 State Fair. The American Dairy Association of Minnesota Sponsors for Meritorius Production Award to club members with high production dairy animals based on official Certified Central Processes DHIA records.
