News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

November 8, 2000

“This war is more serious than we ever thought.” —excerpt from a diary kept in 1918 by Jess Roach. His daughter, Cynthia Roach Haack, shared the following from her father’s diary and remembrances of her uncles, Dan and James: “About 50 ‘doughboys’ served from the Eagle Bend area. Frederick E. Cossentine was the first local man to die overseas: thus, the name of the local American Legion chapter.”

The Eagle Valley Rebels undefeated season came to an end in the Section 1A finals as they lost to the Browerville Tigers 21-14. This left the Rebels with a 10-1 season and a conference championship.

50 Years Ago

November 13, 1975

The Eagle Bend volleyball team is District 22 champs! This is the first district championship in any sport since 1944. And we’re mighty proud!

The Eagle Bend FFA is sponsoring a Farm-City Day on Saturday, November 22 in Eagle Bend. The Commercial Club members will have sidewalk in-store specials in conjunction with displays and activities by the FFA.
