News from Eagle Bend's Past
December 20, 2000
It was the early 1970s when a young couple, Fred (Buck) and Carolynne Bisel, and their young children decided to leave the Washington, D.C. metro area. Buck had been the manager of a large Safeway food store. They had a choice of grocery stores in Sauk Centre, Grey Eagle or Eagle Bend. They chose Eagle Bend because it was located in a strong agricultural area, not depending on the tourist trade. They bought the grocery store on the corner of Main Street that was owned by Shirley and Irv Woodworth, Senior.

The Eagle Valley Rebels varsity football team enjoyed their best season this year since 1976. They took the title of Prairie Conference champions and placed second in the section play-offs. They were led by Coach John Sieling who began coaching football teams about 23 years ago when Eagle Bend was separate from Clarissa. They ended the season with a 10-1 record, facing defeat in their last section game against Browerville whom they had defeated earlier in the season.
