25 Years Ago

February 14, 2001

Eagle Valley Science Fair winners were: Cody Snyder, Jesse Seifert, Nicole Hess, Jayme Godding, Missy Kassube, Tyler Berg, Patrick Perish, Kayla Salathe, Nicholas Harren, Taylor Lunemann, Jacob Peacock, Cassie Snyder, Mikayla Krause, Matt Aspengren, Joseph Harren, Emily Olson, Justin Hlatky and Melanie Weishair.

The Rebels boys basketball team defeated Swanville 56-54 last Tuesday in an exciting Prairie Conference game. This was a game of two evenly matched teams battling the middle in the conference rankings. The Rebels kicked off to a 2-0 lead to start the game but the Patriots came right back to take the first quarter 15-12. James Kassube dropped in two threes to lead the Rebels in the quarter.

50 Years Ago

February 19, 1976

Charles Strioch, an Eagle Bend junior at 119 pounds, is the first Eagle Bend wrestler to ever win a district championship.

The announcement was made on President’s Day, February 16, of the winning artist in the Eagle Bend Bicentennial Button Contest. Marcia Rhodes of Eagle Bend won first place with her design depicting an eagle in flight, and the caption “Eagle Bend Commemorates America’s Bicentennial.” Mrs. Rhodes will receive a $5 prize and a free button. Her winning design will become Eagle Bend’s official emblem for the Bicentennial year.
