DeeAnn Durheim, daughter of Delvin and Debra Durheim of Eagle Bend, will be competing for the title of Minnesota Simmental Queen for 2001. The contest will take place on Friday, February 23 in Rochester at the annual Simmental Association Banquet. DeeAnn will be presenting a speech to a panel of judges and will be evaluated on her knowledge of the Simmental breed of cattle.

On February 2, the Lakewood Health System Foundation presented members from the Eagle Bend Development Corporation a check in the amount of $6250. The check was presented at the foundation’s eighth annual dinner auction. Making the presentation was Foundation Board President Dr. Julie Mayers Benson to Eagle Bend Development Corporation Secretary Twila Pierce.

The Eagle Bend FFA Chapter presented an award to the Eagle Bend Commercial Club last week. This award is called the Beaver Award and is given to an area organization which has made an outstanding effort in its community improvement program. When presenting the award, Ron Pachan, the chapter’s BOAC chairman, said, “Congratulations from all the members of the Eagle Bend FFA Chapter. The commercial club is being recognized for its efforts in community improvement. As part of the chapter and the BOAC committee chairmen, I am very pleased to present this award to you.” The award was accepted by Will James and Fred Bisel. The award is being displayed at the Main Street Cafe.

Lonna Stevenson, Eagle Bend librarian, received a book on Alcoholics Anonymous donated by the Eagle Bend Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous. She stated that the book is a welcome addition to the school library, especially since the information in the library is limited.
