The rising waters over the weekend caused many flooding problems throughout the county and state. On Saturday evening, sandbags were put around Shirley’s Gas Station in Eagle Bend to keep water from running into the building. County Road 16 was one of many county roads overcome by flooding.

At a Knowledge Bowl meet, students start with a written test consisting of 60 multiple-choice questions. Then they compete in four rounds of oral questions with two other teams. There are 45 questions in each round. When a member of the team knows the answer, they press a strip that will buzz into the computer. The fastest team to buzz in, answers the question first. If they are wrong, the next team gets a chance to answer. The ninth grade junior high Knowledge Bowl team placed fourth overall in the season at the regional meet on March 16. They were: Hana Hierl, Megan Schlichting, Gayle Perish, Matt Harren, Mark LaVoie, Clayton Krause, and Nathan Wood.

Calvin and Delbert Pooler have recently purchased the Eagle Bend Metals business from C.A. Lundren. Calvin is from Clarissa and Delbert is from Eagle Bend. The Poolers will be offering top prices for scrap iron and other valuable metals. Lundgren plans on enjoying his retirement. The entire community wishes the best of luck to the Poolers and to the retiring C.A. Lundgren.

Eagle Bend Mayor John Reid today proclaimed the week of April 19 to the 26 as National Bicycle Safety Week. Reid informed this newspaper that if the demand is great enough a special Bicycle Safety Class will be conducted in Eagle Bend. If you have youngsters interested in learning better bicycle safety, please contact Eagle Bend Police Chief Virgil Hokanson.
