Kermit Olson of Eagle Bend has been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation in recognition of his commitment to serving the community and the world. Named for the founder of the Lions Club International, Melvin Jones, is the foundation’s highest honor. It is a recognition of a commitment to humanitarian service. As a Melvin Jones Fellow, Kermit becomes a part of a growing network of individuals who are committed to improving the quality of life for people locally and in communities around the world. Kermit received a plaque and lapel pin and was honored at the Eagle Bend Lions Club annual meeting on Tuesday, March 10.

Mr. Jerry Stone is pictured receiving a plaque from the Minnesota State Wrestling Coaches Association for 20 years of service to the sport of wrestling. The award was presented to Mr. Stone by Athletic Director Rick Hest. Thanks, Mr. Stone, for the many years of service to wrestling and to Eagle Valley.

The Eagle Bend Lions Club held their first annual election of officers last Tuesday night. The new officers are: President Russell Wells; Immediate Past President Fred Bisel; First Vice President Dick Baso; Second Vice President Bob Nordland; Third Vice President Earl Mathison; Tail Twister Jim Weibye; Secretary Will James; Treasurer Clinton Nordstrom; Lion Tamer Gerald Hanson; Two Year Director Bob Brandt; Two Year Director Clarence Piepho; One Year Director—Curt Hanson and Kermit Olson.

The Eagle Bend FFA Chapter delegation attended the District Banquet held on April 9 at Staples. The local chapter was presented plaques for nine district titles. Many members also received individual ribbons for excellence in the district. District Proficiency Awards were presented to: Greta Mittag, Tom Guse and Ralph Kern. District Achievement Awards were given to: Tim Guse, gold; Al Hess, gold; Brenda Crider, silver; Terri Peterson, silver; Karen Krause, silver; Greta Mittag, silver; Rich Pommier, silver; Ralph Kern, bronze; Becky Hammond, bronze; and Bob Nolz, bronze.
