Amy Wendel, daughter of Wayne and Carol Wendel of Eagle Bend, has been awarded her second platform presentation at the national level for research she has done at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Wendel’s research focuses on the identification of malignant cells in body fluids utilizing cytology and florescence in situ hybridization as a means of eradication.

The Eagle Valley Youth Center, known as The Spot, will undergo some exciting new changes during the school year. After wrestling with the idea of closing down the Youth Center, which is located in the original Eagle Bend Post Office building, the board has agreed to presenting renewed activities to the community. There is a need to add new members to the board who represents the parents, students and community at large. The Spot will not be open every Friday and Saturday as it was in past years.

Arlene Nauman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gransen of rural Eagle Bend, recently received first place honors in the Court Reporting Competition, while representing Jackson Area Vocational Technical Institute at the Minnesota Office Education Association contest held in Minneapolis.

Curt Krause, of the Wykeham Willing Workers 4-H Club of Eagle Bend, and Bruce Motl, of the Lone Star 4-H Club of Browerville, were selected as two of the top 16 4-H club dairy project long-time members in the state and were awarded trips to the National Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in late September. Announcement of their selection was made at the Minnesota State Fair on Saturday, September 4.
