25 Years Ago

February 14, 1996

Justin Carlson was an eighth-grade student at Eagle Valley High School who was 14 years old. At approximately 5:15 p.m. on February 8, Justin was struck on the head by a falling limb from a tree he was cutting with a chainsaw. He was rushed to Douglas County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Neil Pollard, gambling manager of the VFW Post #6318, and Gary Johnson, post commander, presented checks to Elsie Gustafson for “The Spot” for $500 and to Gwen Klimek on behalf of Dollars for Scholars for $1000.


50 Years Ago

February 11, 1971

It’s time to take a look at our busy scouts. For our small community, we can be very proud of the many boys we have attending scouts. As you know this would not be possible without willing workers and leaders. Cub Scouts groups include: Sharon Harris is assisted by Karen Moller with six boys; Cleone Johnson is assisted by Violet Hess with six boys and Corliss Seward has four boys in her group.

Eagle Bend High School’s 1971 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow is Senior Carol Gjerstad, selected for her performance in a written knowledge and attitude examination administered to senior girls on December 1. Carol will receive a specially designed award from General Mills, sponsor of the annual education program. Additionally, she is now eligible for state and national honors, including one of 102 college scholarships totaling more than $110,000.
