As James Scott’s parole hearing approaches on March 10, concerns have been raised by Todd County Sheriff Mike Allen regarding the implications of his potential release.

Scott was convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of Dale Yungk in 1990, a case that continues to resonate within the community.

Sheriff Allen has emphasized the importance of serving the entirety of Scott’s sentence, reflecting the views of local law enforcement and the community on the need for public safety and justice in this matter.

Sheriff Allen released the following statement on January 15.

To whom it may concern:

As the date of James Scott’s parole hearing approaches, our office is concerned. As with any heinous crime it is concerning not only to this office but also the citizens of this county that an inmate involved in this crime may be paroled and not serve the length of their sentence. The feelings and emotions of this case are still felt within the community and members of law enforcement who investigated this murder.

James Scott chose to brutally murder his victim by shooting him multiple times in the back and leaving him in a rural area for citizens of our county to randomly find. The facts and images of this case are still affecting both the community and members of law aenforcement that had to investigate this brutal murder. It is the job of this office to protect the citizens of Todd County and one way to do this is by keeping people who commit these brutal acts behind bars to serve their entire sentence.

It is my recommendation and the recommendation of the Todd County Sheriff’s Office that James Scott continue to be incarcerated for the crimes in which he was convicted. The family of the victim along with the citizens of Todd County and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office deserve nothing less than the full term of incarceration of James Scott...
