Sidewalk Overage Questions Go Unanswered, Residents Frustrated

The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, September 8.

Sidewalk Budget Overage

Ryan Odden from Moore Engineering was informed just hours before the council meeting that John Pauna, the municipal group leader, would be unable to attend but would still like to meet with the committee. The council expressed a desire to convene as a whole council and arrange a special meeting when Pauna was available to discuss the issue.

The Safe Routes to School grant will not provide any additional grant dollars, as they already paid out an extra $25,000 with the initial bid, and the funding is tapped out.

The total cost for four radar signs was $45,942. However, since only three signs were installed at the time of the meeting, the council approved an adjusted payment of $34,450 for the installed signs.

Ideal is currently addressing punch list items and fixing cracked panels. A section of new sidewalk was discovered to have water pooling issues. The council agreed to have the contractor inspect the area and suggest a solution. Plans were to further coordinate with the county and contractors. Visitors left disappointed as no answers were provided.

Public Hearing for Police

Department

Closed the meeting to talk about public safety. A public hearing will be held on October 13 to discuss whether the city wants to continue moving forward with a part-time police department or contract with the county for services...
