Tigers win two for the week

by Coach Mary Irsfeld

The Tigers hosted the Pillager Huskies on Tuesday evening, securing a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-20, 25-16).

Struggling with serve receive and ball handling on the defensive end, the Tigers found themselves down 6-2 in the first set, with continued difficulties extending the deficit to 12-6.

However, the game shifted when the Tigers sparked a comeback with key blocks and hustle plays, pushing a 6-0 run to tie the set at 12-12.

Late in the set, down 22-23, the Tigers called a timeout. A missed serve by the Huskies, followed by a crucial attack kill and an ace block, secured the Tigers the first set, 25-23.

In the second set, the Tigers initially jumped to a 4-0 lead, but the Huskies fought back to go ahead 6-9. The Tigers regrouped and tied the score at 13-13. From there, they pushed forward to a 19-14 advantage, forcing the Huskies to call a timeout. The lead held strong, and the Tigers finished the set 25-20.

In the third set, the Tigers jumped to an early 8-0 lead with strong offensive connections. They continued to attack effectively, finding gaps in the Huskies defense, maintaining momentum and closing the match with a 25-16 victory.

Ava Lorentz contributed 19 set assists, Ashley Perish led the attack with 10 kills and 3 ace blocks, while Natalie Marxer and Lydia Stearns added 8 kills each.

Lorentz, Marxer, and Miley Riedel each had 2 ace blocks....
