Todd County Board of Commissioners: Opt to not approve DNR tax-forfeited land review

by Karin L. Nauber

I don’t get why the DNR (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources) gets their tentacles into everything that has value and puts their name on it.”

Those were the words of Commissioner Randy Neumann when it came to the discussion about the DNR reviewing and approving the sale of certain tax-forfeited lands.

This has been a longtime disagreement for Todd County Commissioners.

“They say, ‘We’re going to take this and you can have the rest,’” continued Neumann.

The parcel in question includes lakeshore property on Little Swan Lake.

According to state statute, the DNR is directed to review and approve the sale of such lands.

While there were 27 parcels that were forfeited for non-payment of taxes, the only one that fell into the category the DNR will review is the one with the lakeshore.

Auditor/Treasurer Denise Gaida said that she heard the commissioners but was just following the guidelines. . .
