The Todd County Economic Development Corporation will have a director again after a seven-month wait. The former director, Rick Boelke, was let go after the Todd County Commissioners cut the group’s funding by $40,000. Chairwoman of the board and Eagle Bend Mayor Carolynne Bisel stated the reason for the cut was the commissioners blamed Boelke for not saving two businesses that closed in Long Prairie. At the August 25 meeting, Alex Weego was hired as the new director. Weego will begin October 1 in the Browerville office. He has experience with community development as he is active in the Hewitt Revitalization Group.

Angela Hurtig is the new fourth-grade teacher for the Bertha-Hewitt Elementary School. She was an elementary substitute teacher for the Bertha-Hewitt School for the last two years. She coached the Bertha-Hewitt junior high volleyball, basketball, and softball teams this past year. Hurtig graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with an emphasis on special education and coaching.

September 6, 1945

In one of the major business transactions here in several years, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Arnett sold their Variety Store, including the building, stock, and fixtures, to Mr. and Mrs. Phillip L. Herbert of Long Beach, California. The deal was finalized on Wednesday and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert took immediate possession.

From the Talk of the Town column: While the rest of us are worrying about tires for our old cars and money for new ones, Karl Bottemiller is rolling merrily along with his 1912 Model T still as good as the day it left the factory 33 years ago. It also has a set of 30x30 tires that look good for at least a few more months—lucky fellow.
