Ray and Marlo Benning are celebrating 25 years as the owners of the Independent News Herald. They purchased the newspaper from Ernie and Diane Silbernagel, taking over the business on June 1, 2000. The Silbernagels had owned the Eagle Bend News and Bertha Herald since 1979 and combined these papers with the Clarissa Independent in 1992, creating the Independent News Herald. They were opposed to the color red, and opted for purple. They declared “Plump is in” and asked for various items such as a cook stove, automatic poopper-scooper, a moped and more.
