A Matter of Perspective

I was going to write this week’s article as a rant about something. But after something that took place on Wednesday, I decided to write about an entirely different matter.

I decided to write about human kindness and compassion.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the struggle I was having with very high blood sugars—526 was the highest one I recorded. It’s been pretty bad. I feel confused and tired all the time.

Well, prayers were answered late last week when the Lilly Cares program came through with some insulin.

While I am happy about that, it’s not what I want to write about. I want to tell you about the overwhelming kindness I have felt from the people in our communities.

While I received a lot of advice and ideas that I can use to help better my life, two entities—the American Legion Auxiliary in Browerville and a private individual both went above and beyond. You both know what you did and I can’t express my gratitude enough.

With the money that the auxiliary members gave to me, I will be able to purchase the needles that I need to deliver the insulin through a shot in the stomach every day.

With the new glucometer and supply of test strips, I can make sure my blood sugar is doing what it is supposed to do.

I just can’t get over the kindness of the people behind these actions. We always hear about the bad people who do mean things. But I wanted to give these people a good “shout out!”

The man who gave me the glucometer and strips said that his wife told him to tell me they would even make a trip to Canada for me to pick up any supplies that I needed.

WHAT?!

That is above and beyond and as I am writing and thinking about how great our community is in Todd County, I am letting a tear or two trickle down my cheeks.

Thank you is not big enough words, but it is all I have right now. So, thank you auxiliary members and thank you Wayne and Carol. You all have really renewed my will to fight this dreadful condition!
