A Community Staple Comes to an End: Browerville Pool Closes after Three Decades

After more than 30 years of serving as a summer gathering place for families, students, and swimmers, the Browerville community pool will close permanently, marking the end of an era for the town.

The decision was finalized on March 9, when the Browerville School Board unanimously approved a motion to close the pool. While the announcement came quietly through school board minutes and word of mouth, the impact is expected to be deeply felt around the community.

A Vision Built by Community

The idea for the pool dates back to 1992, when a community focus group first proposed the project as part of a broader vision for Browerville’s future. According to archived reports from the Browerville Blade, the project quickly gained traction.

By early 1993, plans were approved for an Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool near the school’s tennis courts. The estimated cost of $190,000 was funded through a combination of $145,000 in school funds and $45,000 raised through community donations—demonstrating strong local support.

Then Superintendent Larry Werder explained that the school money was in the building fund ($40,000) left from the 1990 school addition and from the facilities account ($105,000), which was for permanent fixtures...
