A Matter of Perspective

As I am writing this on April 1, it is the first day of Camp NaNoWriMo. It is also an extremely busy day!

No excuses, though. I will get my 1667 words written today!

I am so very grateful for modern technologies! If my computer couldn’t do word count, I would have to manually go through and count and come up with an “estimated” number of words. Math is not my strong suit so estimation is not my best talent.

Speaking of talents, I know there are some other writers out there who should be joining me for Camp. You know who you are and I am throwing it out there again. Connect with me at: karin@inhnews.com. Even if you don’t want to meet in person for a writing session, we can still encourage each other. It’s not too late!

And now onto something else. . .

I’ve been working on cleaning my desk at home. It is in pretty bad shape. I have a general knowledge of what things are on my desk but I have no idea within which pile I will find them.

My desk has multiple shelves. I decided to take it one shelf at a time. I am happy to report that the top shelf (after three weeks) is almost done!

The middle shelf and the actual desktop surface itself are what is frightening me now!

There are so many loose papers and folders and notebooks and knick-knacks and Post It notes and things my grandchildren have made for me on those two shelves that I am at the point where I don’t know where to begin.

I think the assistance of a professional organizer would help but I also know my tendency to NEVER throw things away. To cure that problem would probably require years of therapy!

But I digress. I know I can get the desk cleaner and more usable than it is right now. I’ve been making it work for over a year now but I feel the need for a change and by golly, I am going to make it–tomorrow!

That’s another of my issues–procrastination.

I like to put things off until the absolute last minute that I can and still get them done.

I have been this way all of my life and while I have gotten a little better at getting things done sooner, I still wait on things nine times out of ten much to the chagrin of those around me.

At this point in my life, I don’t see big changes taking place. I am stubborn and set in my ways. But I do want to finish my desk within the next week. I know this is something I can do and do it I shall!

I will post before and after pix when I am done.

In the meantime, I will continue to work on my book and the desk and try to keep some semblance of day-to-day functioning going, too!

If anyone has some pointers for throwing stuff away, let me know, I am open to suggestions!
