BBQ Boot Camp Gives Back to Those who Served

The Hometown Heroes Outdoors BBQ Boot Camp returned to Eagle Bend for its sixth year. This private event for veterans, firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel not only builds camaraderie but also allows participants to learn competition grilling skills.
Hometown Heroes Outdoors (HHO) was established in 2017 by a group of veterans who recognized a shared struggle after their time in uniform: feelings of isolation, disconnection, and a loss of purpose. They discovered the power of the outdoors not just for recreation but as a way to forge a path forward. Through hunting, fishing, and shared experiences in nature, they began creating spaces where healing could occur alongside others who understood.
The HHO is united by its mission to reconnect, rebuild, and remind every hero that they are not alone.
This year, the event was held on Saturday, August 9. Typically scheduled for April, the event was originally cancelled due to several complications. However, after receiving much feedback from the community, Steve “Borgy” Weishair and HHO were able to reschedule the annual gathering.
Due to the change in timing, several regular grilling teams were unable to attend, but nine teams participated and shared their grilling tips with veterans who traveled from all over the state...
