Bears Dominate Laporte before Tough Loss to Battle Lake

The Bertha-Hewitt girls basketball team turned in a strong all-around performance, defeating Laporte 65-37 behind balanced scoring and aggressive defense, on February 17.
Kendal Beyatt led the Bears offensively with 20 points, knocking down nine field goals and adding a pair of three-pointers. Piper Dean followed with 13 points, while Kendra Miller contributed 10 to give Bertha-Hewitt three players in double figures.
Additional scoring came from Aulani Johnson with six points, Chloe Rathcke with four, Jasmine Williams with three, and Ellyana Braaten, Olivia Betterman, Kyrstin Beyatt, and Ava Pomeranz with two points each. Jaidyn Dykhoff added one point at the free-throw line.
The Bears shared the ball well, recording 11 team assists. Braaten, Betterman, Williams, and Dean each finished with multiple assists.
Defensively, Bertha-Hewitt applied constant pressure. Dean paced the effort with eight steals, while Kendal Beyatt and Miller each added four steals and Braaten chipped in two. Braaten also recorded the team’s lone block.
On the glass, Dean posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead all rebounders. Kendal Beyatt added nine rebounds, Johnson pulled down eight, and Miller finished with seven. Williams grabbed six boards as the Bears controlled the rebounding battle throughout the night.
