Bears Drop Home Opener to Blackduck 28-15

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears opened their home schedule Thursday night, battling an experienced Blackduck team from start to finish before falling 28-15.

The Bears came out with plenty of energy, putting together a strong opening drive and finding the end zone to take an early lead. The extra point was good, giving Bertha-Hewitt an early 7-0 advantage.

Blackduck responded with a touchdown of its own and continued to apply pressure, but the Bears’ defense refused to go away. Bertha-Hewitt forced multiple turnovers throughout the game, creating opportunities for the offense and keeping the Bears within striking distance.

After trailing at halftime, the Bears came out with renewed energy in the second half. Bertha-Hewitt struck early, cutting the Blackduck lead to just one point at 16-15 and giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about.

From there, however, Blackduck’s experience began to show. The Bears struggled to consistently move the football offensively, and Blackduck was able to take advantage of its opportunities and pull away late...
