Bertha-Hewitt 49, Verndale 30

The Bertha-Hewitt girls basketball team turned in a strong defensive performance on January 13, defeating VHS 49–30 with balanced scoring and relentless pressure on the defensive end.

Kendal Beyatt led the Bears with a game-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Kyrstin Beyatt also dominated inside, finishing with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds to help control the paint.

Piper Dean contributed 13 points and was a force defensively, tallying 10 steals to disrupt VHS’s offensive rhythm throughout the night. Dean also added three assists and three rebounds. Kendra Miller chipped in with four points, four assists, three rebounds, and a steal, while Jasmine Williams added two points, two rebounds, and three steals.

Bertha-Hewitt’s defense set the tone from the opening tip, forcing turnovers and limiting VHS’s scoring opportunities. The Bears also won the rebounding battle, led by the Beyatt sisters, which allowed them to maintain control of the game.

With contributions across the lineup and strong defensive intensity, Bertha-Hewitt secured a convincing home-court victory and continued to build momentum as the season progresses...
