Bears Shine Against Elite Competition at Dragon Twilight Meet

The Bertha-Hewitt Cross Country team traveled to Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday, September 5, to compete in the highly competitive Dragon Twilight Meet. The event, which drew athletes from across Minnesota and North Dakota, offered the Bears a valuable opportunity to test themselves against some of the region’s top programs. Over the course of three races, Bertha-Hewitt athletes delivered standout performances, highlighted by record-breaking runs and promising breakthroughs.

The meet began with the boys’ 3,000-meter race, where more than 100 runners crowded the starting line. Eighth-grade standout Nolan Rach set the tone early, powering through the field to capture the individual title in an impressive 10:15.4. His win marked one of the most commanding performances of the evening. Fellow Bear Vance Lockwood also rose to the challenge, claiming fifth place with a strong 10:55.1 finish. Seventh grader Ambrose Heinze continued to show steady improvement, running 12:53.2 for 41st place, while 6th grader Jase Fitzlaff, making his varsity debut, placed 68th in 14:16. Rounding out the lineup was Owen Schultz, who crossed the line in 80th with a time of 14:52.
