Bertha-Hewitt Cross Country Opens their Season Strong at Vintage Golf Course

The Bertha-Hewitt Cross Country team opened its 2025 season on Monday, August 25, competing at the Vintage Golf Course in Staples. With ideal weather conditions but a challenging course, the Bears wasted no time making their presence known.
The Junior High boys set the tone early. Eighth-grader Nolan Rach dominated the 2,500-meter race, capturing first place with a time of 8:40.20. Teammate Vance Lockwood followed with an impressive runner-up finish in 8:59.8, more than 20 seconds ahead of third place. Ambrose Heinze crossed the line in 28th at 11:12.5, while Owen Schultz rounded out the squad with a 51st-place finish in 13:35.8.
In the girls’ varsity 5K, the Bears steadily moved through the field. Kendra Miller led the way, taking 3rd overall in 19:43.4—just three seconds shy of her own school record. Miette Hansel earned a top-10 finish with her 10th-place time of 21:56.4. Mckayla Kapphahn continued to show strong progress, placing 31st in 23:39.5, while Aulani Johnson secured 37th in 24:23.5...
