Carter White Keeps Swinging for Records

Nineteen-year-old Carter White of Verndale is already making a name for himself on some of the best golf courses in the region, even though he just finished his first year of college golf.
The former standout from Staples-Motley High School is now playing for North Dakota State University (NDSU) and has been golfing since he was just five years old.
“I’ve been golfing since I was like five,” Carter said.
His early start has paid off; he qualified for the state tournament five times during high school.
After graduating from Verndale School last year, Carter chose NDSU because it was close to home, and he already knew his teammates from previous tournaments.
This summer, Carter achieved a significant milestone by breaking the course record at Moorhead Country Club during the Red River Amateur tournament, which took place from June 26-28.
He shot a remarkable 63, beating the previous record by one stroke. He did not realize he had set a new record until after his round.
He recalled, “The main guy who works there came up to me and said, ‘Congrats on the course record,’ and I didn’t even know.”
The record he broke had only been set a year prior and had changed hands a few times before that. The previous record-holder was one of his teammates, Rylan Petrie Ferttile.
After the round, Carter texted him, saying, “Nice round last year,” to which Rylan replied, “Congrats, wouldn’t want anyone else to beat it.”
