Commissioners Question ‘Sanctuary’ Label; Todd County fights for clarity after surprise federal designation

At the regular Todd County Commissioner meeting held on June 3, the commissioners added agenda item 9.1 Todd County labeled Sanctuary County by Homeland Security in order to bring discussion to the meeting.
Commissioner Neumann stated he had received a call from Commissioner Chair Byers on Friday night that Todd County was on a Homeland Security website listed as a sanctuary county in the state of Minnesota. Neumann also received a phone call from Sheriff Allen.
Neumann contacted Representative Weiner and he was going to do further research.
Commissioner Noska stated he was surprised and believed most residents would want law enforcement to assist ICE and Homeland Security, if needed.
Commissioner Becker stated she had also received phone calls from Byers and Denny. She asked that the discussion be added to the next board meeting.
Commissioner Denny, acting chair for the meeting as Commissioner Byers was absent, voiced his appreciation for the county staff and board members coming together collectively to try and figure this out....
