25 Years Ago

July 2, 1997

Effective June 1, 1997, the Clarissa Ballroom has new owners. Jim and Becky Pratt, of rural Clarissa, purchased the ballroom from her parents, Tony and Marion Massmann. Becky is no stranger to the ballroom and the Massmann’s former Sir Anthony’s Family Restaurant. She has worked both places for a number of years. They will continue to cater weddings, banquets, anniversaries, birthday parties, family and class reunions, graduations and Christmas parties.

A total of $104,769 in wages, benefits, per diem, meal allowances, miscellaneous expenses and mileage was paid to the Todd County Commissioners during 1996. This does not include the pay or expenses paid directly from some of the boards they serve. For 1996 a commissioner’s base salary was $1320 a month or $15,840 annually. The chairman receives an additional $50 per month.


50 Years Ago

June 29, 1972

Allen Holmquist of the Hustlin Rustic 4-H Club was named Champion Jersey exhibitor with his registered two-year-old cow at the Lake Region Dairy Show held on Wednesday, June 21, in Wadena.

The Todd County Court will come into existence on July 1, 1972. The 1971 legislature enacted a court reorganization bill whereby the probate and juvenile courts of Todd and Wadena counties are combined into the Todd-Wadena County Court District on July 1.
