25 Years Ago

July 22, 1998

Clarissa had a little trouble advancing through the first round of the East Division playoffs over the weekend against Verndale Friday night with a score of 9-6 during the kickoff of Summerfest. Then the Flyers journeyed to the Bison’s home park Sunday and thrashed The Herd 17-4 in eight innings. The winning team, in the next round, will advance to the regional tournament.

Tibby’s scavenger hunt winners—first place ($25): Robyn Moore, Al Skillings, Sandy Manor, Dewayne Skillings, Carl Skillings, T.J. Moore, Stephen Manor, Kat Winkler and Matt Manor. Second place ($10): Michelle Hartmann, Amanda Hatmann and Monica Pieper. Third place ($5): Maria and Sara Swenson.

50 Years Ago

July 19, 1973

Two new teachers were hired at the meeting of the Clarissa Board of Education held last Thursday evening at the superintendent’s office at the school. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dale Foote. Susan Gunkelman was hired as high school and elementary physical education teacher at a salary of $7200. Sandra Raiber was hired by the board to replace Phyllis Tisnseth for the 1973-74 school year at a salary of also $7200.

The Clarissa High School cheerleaders and their faculty advisors returned Thursday from a four-day cheerleading camp at the International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota-Canadian border.
