25 Years Ago

February 24, 1999

On Tuesday, we played host to the Royalton basketball team that defeated us earlier this season by 27 points. We were coming off some good games and we wanted to give ourselves an opportunity to beat these guys. Both teams had early runs in the game but were very disciplined to not let the other team get too hot. It was 13-14 after the first quarter and 20-25 at the half in Royalton’s favor.

The Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development notified the city that they were not approved for a municipal grant this year. The city had requested $514,000 toward a $3.2 million sewer and water improvement project. The city is still waiting for word on their request for the balance of funding from the federal Rural Development program.


50 Years Ago

June 8, 1973

Two wrestlers from Clarissa qualified to advance to regional competition at the district tournament held last week Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Alexandria. Randy Meyer captured second place in the 145 pound weight class and Harold DeBlieck took fourth in the 119 pound division to secure spots in the regional event. Each wrestler was presented a medal for his achievement.

The plaque above a well in India reads, “Immanuel Lutheran Church Women, Clarissa, Minnesota, USA.” It is a well that the Immanuel Women donated to the people of India.
