LueAnn Duda, postal clerk in Clarissa, was presented with the Ben Franklin Award of Excellence. Duda was nominated for the award by Tammy Anderson and Diane Silbernagel from the Independent News Herald. The award was created by the Postal Service and National Newspaper Association to recognize the special partnership between community newspapers, most of which are delivered by mail, and their local postmasters. Duda always goes out of her way to help in making sure the newspaper is delivered promptly and efficiently to the INH subscribers.

The city council awarded the bid for the new fire pumper to Heiman Brothers. The bid was for $157,330. The motion was made by Anderson and seconded by Gene Booker. Mayor Schnettler broke the tie to win the yes vote to award the bid to Heiman Brothers.
50 Years Ago
May 29, 1975
Gerald Kuhn of Wadena was hired as the new liquor store manager, village clerk and city coordinator at a special meeting held by the city council on Wednesday evening.

Dr. Fredrick M. Grose of Clarissa was honored by his fellow Minnesota physicians this month for 50 years of service in the practice of medicine. He was received into the distinguished Fifty Club of the Association at ceremonies held in conjunction with its 1975 annual meeting at the St. Paul Hilton Hotel. Forty-two physicians were recognized.
