Ernie and Diane Silbernagel, owners of the Independent News Herald, have sold the newspaper and printing business to Ray and Marlo Benning of Clarissa. The Silbernagels have owned the Eagle Bend News and Bertha Herald since 1970. They combined those two papers with the Clarissa Independent in 1992, creating the Independent News Herald which covers the communities of Hewitt, Bertha, Eagle Bend and Clarissa. Ray Benning is originally from Browerville and Marlo (Meiners) Benning is from Clarissa. Ray comes to the newspaper business with 10 years of printing experience. He has been employed at the INH for the past year. The business will officially change hands on June 1. Another change taking place will be the removal of the Linotype from the print shop. The Linotype, which was used to set lead type for the newspaper in the days before offset printing, will find a new home at the Print Shop at the Danielson Farm at Spruce Center.
