Nikki Reed, a local sophomore, has been selected to attend the Minnesota Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, joining more than 200 young leaders. Reed was chosen based upon demonstrated leadership and potential for continued leadership growth. There is no cost to the student or the school for the seminar due to private funding, gifts-in-kind, grants and contributions from area businesses and service organizations.

The liquor store had one of the biggest nights in sales on Saturday, May 27, since the all-school reunion in 1997. The softball tournament held in the park brought in many customers that evening. It was discussed to consider having a beer wagon during the tournament since sales were so good. Bill Jedlicka reported the total sales in May being $32,500, expenses totaling $27,900, with a profit of $4,590.

June 19, 1975
George F. Etzell, 66, editor and publisher of this paper for over 40 years, died at St. John’s Hospital in Browerville about 10:30 Tuesday morning, June 17. Death was caused by a heart attack.

Two Clarissa boys were listed on the KWAD Track Honor Roll which lists the conference best participants in track this past season. Steve Woge was listed third in the high jump with a record of five feet, eleven inches. Steve was a senior at the Clarissa High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woge. Brain Cribbs placed third in the shot-put with a season’s record of 49 feet, eight and one-half inches. Brian also was a senior at CHS and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Cribbs.
