Vonda Hedlund was selected to be the grand marshal of the Clarissa Summerfest parade. “I was pleased to be asked. I told them there are so many more deserving than I am, but they didn’t listen to me!” explained Vonda. Vonda grew up and graduated from the Clarissa High School, having lived only three years in Grey Eagle. In addition to raising her family, Vonda was a nurse. She worked for Dr. Grose from 1963 until he closed his office in 1972. She retired in 1993 after working for the Todd County Public Health Department.

Summers Wilderness Canoe Base north of Ely early that afternoon. First on the agenda was a swimming test and a swamp canoe test. The scouts had to swim with army boots on, which they had to wear during the trip because of rocks. The first night was spent at the base camp.
