Participants in the biking expedition began their journey in Anacortes, Washington on June 26 and were expected to arrive in Rye Bench, New Hampshire on August 18. When they arrived in Clarissa they had traveled about 2000 miles. The bikers average 80-100 miles a day now that they are in the plains. “We were kept on our toes by buffalo in heat at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Male buffaloes were rowdy and grunting so we were warned not to get out of our tents at night,” said one biker.

For the second consecutive playoff game, Clarissa allowed Verndale no runs. The Flyers defeated the Bison 10-0 on Wednesday night at home in a seven-inning contest after blanking The Herd at Verndale the previous Sunday 11-0. Thus, the winners became the champions of the Hi-10 League’s East Division with the sweep.
50 Years Ago
March 28, 1975
On Thursday, July 31, Gene Lindquist, local rural mail carrier, served the patrons on his route for the last time after 39 years of service with the federal government. When asked about what he was planning to do now he said, “Not anymore than I have to. I’m just going to take it easy for a while.” Gene leaves with mixed emotions. He had a great relationship at the post office and he said, “It was most difficult to leave.”

The new Clarissa Municipal Liquor Store will hold a ‘Grand Opening’ next Tuesday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 o’clock midnight. There will be liquor and beer specials all day, live music and hourly drawings.
