At about 4 a.m., on Thursday, August 10, Jon and Rita’s Super Valu in Clarissa was again the victim of burglars. According to Jon Miller, owner of Jon and Rita’s, the thieves gained access to the store by breaking a couple of windows at the front of the store. Once inside, they took 35 cartons of cigarettes. Nothing else was taken and no other damage was done inside the store.

“I love kids,” said Donna Hinzmann with a smile on her face. Donna, owner and operator of Donna’s Countryside Daycare in rural Clarissa, worked at Jon and Rita’s Super Valu for nearly 11 years. The decision to open a daycare in her home on June 1 came about because she wanted to spend more time with her family. Donna is currently licensed for 10 children. She also employs two helpers.

August 21, 1975
Four local young men, Phil Godding, Tim Hansen, Pat Lunemann and Gary Swanberg, are “singing up a storm” in the area. In doing so, these young men are proving that today’s young people are creative and willing to share their talents with others.

Wild cow milking will be featured at the Long Prairie Lions Rodeo this weekend. Clarissa will be represented by the Modern Dairy team “Round Up” Tom Redemacher and “Gorgeous Glass-Eyed” Glen Gerads. They have challenged the Eagle Bend Surge team of “Rough Rider Roger” Aspengren and “Laredo Lyle” Winter to a milking contest at the Sunday afternoon performance at the Todd County fairgrounds.
